In the context of government policies on widening participation and employability, and with an identified under-use of careers services by students from non-traditional backgrounds (Harris 2001) HECSU and AGCAS commissioned this research. It looks at how careers advisory services can enhance the employability of graduates from these non-traditional backgrounds.
Its recommendations relate to awareness of the issues, targeting, empowerment, monitoring, collaboration and networking, recruitment and institutional support and resources.
Alistair Morey, Lee Harvey, James Williams, Abril Saldana and Paula Mena from the Centre for Research into Quality at the University of Central England conducted the research.
