This publication gives information about what happened to first degree, Masters and doctoral graduates from Scottish higher education institutions in 2006. Charts show what UK graduates from various disciplines were doing six months after graduation. Although this is a snapshot taken at a very early point in their careers, it shows how career paths vary according to students’ choice of degree subjects. It shows that many leavers entered occupations open to graduates of any discipline, drawing upon transferable skills gained through their university education.
Many leavers from Scottish Higher Education institutions want to remain in Scotland to work and study. Some of the articles therefore examine the labour market in Scotland’s regions and opportunities for graduates in the Scottish economy. References to sources of labour market information in Scotland’s regions direct readers to other sources of data to help them make informed choices about prospects in areas they want to live and work.
